Kidney disease, early detection is a best protection

Kidney disease is a family disease as it can be passed from generations. If one of the family is diagnosed of kidney disease it is best to let the whole family knowns as early detection is a best protection.

Tell or teach them, that kidney disease runs in families and encourage them to get tested for kidney disease and give them supports in their efforts to control their diabetes and high blood pressure.

The leading cause of kidney failure are diabetes and hypertension. A regular check up and get tested for kidney disease will prevent kidney failure as we could able to control of our blood pressure and blood sugar and this may help the kidneys to stay healthy. The common causes of kidney failure

The kidneys are two bean shaped organs that perform vital life maintaining fuctions. The fuctions of the kidneys are removal of waste products ( urea, uraemic and toxins ) from the body, also removal of excess water from the body and helps in regulation of blood pressure. Unfortunately, kidney disease may be silent with no signs until it has become very advanced. Therefore screening is advisable for those at high risk of getting kidney disease. In malaysia, 2500 new patients are diagonosed to have End Stage Renal Failure ( ESRT ) yearly. The total number of patients dialysing in Malaysia currently is 14,512 as on 31/1/2007.

People who is at high risk for developing kidney disease and the high risk factors are if you are having high pressure , having diabetes mellitus, having protein or blood in the urine, having a single functioning kidney, having an autoimmune disease like SLE Rheumatoid arthritis, having history of chronic ingestion of pain killers or herbal preparations, having history of renal disease and having heart disease.

The symptoms of kidneys failure are tireness, nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite. Others symptoms are swelling of face, feet and body, difficulty in breathing, frothy urine or blood in the urine, decreased quantity of urine, itchiness of skin and no symptoms in early disease.
